The Greek roots of the word photography translate as "writing with light." Welcome to my studio--a place to practice and illuminate good work using writing and photography.

St. Johns Bridge

Hold out for form and function

The only steel suspension type in Oregon's Willamette Valley, the tall and beautiful St. Johns Bridge connects north Portland with the westside industrial area.  Construction on the bridge began a month before the stock market crash of 1929 and provided jobs during The Great Depression.  Upon completion in 1931 designers Holton Robinson and David Steinman are rumored to have inspected their finished work by taking a stunt airplane ride over and under the bridge.
