Nature trumps innovation

Designed by famed engineer Gustav Lindenthal and built to shoulder traffic from the Mount Hood Highway (U.S. Route 26) across Portland’s Willamette River, the Ross Island Bridge opened on December 21, 1926 as the only cantilever deck truss bridge in Oregon.
